SOLONAX
Geosynthetics manufacturer

Containment that outlives
the structure it protects.

SOLONAX manufactures the full geosynthetic range — HDPE and LLDPE geomembranes, nonwoven and woven geotextiles, geosynthetic clay liners, geogrids, drainage geocomposites and erosion control systems — to GRI-GM13, ASTM and EN specification, with every roll traceable to its extrusion lot.

Anatomy of a composite lining system

Containment is never one product. Select a layer to see what it does and which part of the range serves it.

Liner selector

A first-pass polymer and thickness recommendation derived from GRI-GM13 minimum values. It informs a specification; it does not replace project design.

GRI-GM13 / GM17 Indicative only — confirm with project design.

Thickness steps follow the 0.75 / 1.00 / 1.25 / 1.50 / 2.00 / 2.50 / 3.00 mm production range. Minimum values are GRI-GM13 for HDPE and GRI-GM17 for LLDPE, scaled to nominal thickness. Cushion mass is a survivability estimate for the stated subgrade, not a design calculation.

Where the range goes to work

The same six families, specified differently for each duty.

Mining & metals

Heap leach pads, process solution ponds, tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, haul roads and closure caps.

Double-sided textured HDPE for interface friction on pad slopes, GCL as a secondary barrier under the primary liner, and drainage geocomposites in the solution collection layer.

Waste & environment

Municipal and hazardous landfill base lining, leachate lagoons, capping and closure, landfill gas collection and contaminated land capping.

The classic composite: GCL, 1.50–2.00 mm textured HDPE, cushion geotextile and a drainage geocomposite in the leachate collection layer.

Water & irrigation

Potable and raw water reservoirs, irrigation ponds, canal lining, dam upstream faces, treatment lagoons and stormwater attenuation.

Smooth HDPE where the subgrade is prepared, GCL where the reservoir must hold water without a synthetic liner exposed, and geotextile cushion under rock armour.

Transportation

Road subgrade stabilisation, asphalt reinforcement, railway trackbed and ballast protection, airport pavements, embankments over soft ground and retaining structures.

Biaxial and triaxial geogrid to cut base course thickness, woven geotextile for separation, and uniaxial geogrid in reinforced soil walls.

Energy & oil and gas

Secondary containment for tank farms, frac and brine ponds, refinery bunds, biogas lagoons and floating covers, coal ash impoundments and solar farm civil works.

Chemical resistance governs: HDPE for hydrocarbons, polymer-enhanced GCL for brine, and a leak location survey before commissioning.

Agriculture & aquaculture

Irrigation ponds, farm reservoirs, shrimp and fish ponds, silage clamps, slurry lagoons and greenhouse water storage.

Smooth HDPE at 0.75–1.00 mm, welded on site, with an anchor trench detail and a UV-stable exposed specification.

05 — Quality

Every roll is a document, not just a product

Published test frequencies, a retained sample from every lot, and a roll number that resolves all the way back to the resin.

A geomembrane fails at its weakest square metre, not at its average. Everything below exists so that the weakest square metre is still inside specification.

ISO 9001ISO 14001ISO 45001CE / DoPISO/IEC 17025GRI-GM13 / GM17
Every roll carries a printed roll and lot number. That number resolves to the extrusion run, the resin lot, the masterbatch batch, the full MQC record and the operator on shift. A retained sample from every lot is archived for five years, so a question raised in year four can still be answered with material, not with an opinion.

Mining & metalsCentral Anatolia, Türkiye

Copper heap leach pad, Phase 2

Challenge · A 1V:2.5H pad slope with 60 m of stacked ore required an interface friction angle the smooth liner specified at tender could not deliver.

Solution · 2.00 mm double-sided textured HDPE with a 400 g/m² cushion and a biplanar solution collection geocomposite, verified by project-specific direct shear testing.

Outcome · Slope stability re-verified at 1.42 factor of safety; zero destructive seam failures across 14 200 m of weld.

Irrigation reservoir, 1.8 million m³

Challenge · Gypsum-bearing subgrade with a dissolution risk, and a client requirement for a double barrier without doubling the excavation.

Solution · GCL secondary barrier directly on the prepared subgrade, 1.50 mm smooth HDPE primary, and a 300 g/m² separator beneath the cover soil.

Outcome · Leak location survey after first fill recorded no detectable defects over the lined area.

Municipal landfill, cells 4–6

Challenge · A regulator requiring a composite base liner with demonstrable equivalence to one metre of compacted clay, on a site with no clay borrow within 90 km.

Solution · GCL plus 2.00 mm textured HDPE, a 600 g/m² cushion and a double-sided drainage geocomposite in the leachate collection layer.

Outcome · Equivalence accepted on index flux data; 41 000 m³ of clay haulage removed from the programme.
